In the words of Sir Ken Robinson “ Picasso once said that all children are born artists. The problem is to remain an artist as we grow up. I believe this passionately , that we don’t grow into creativity, we grow out of it. Or rather we get educated out of it.”

The quote is quite thought provoking indeed! It clarifies that everyone is creative and all one has to do is give oneself an opportunity to nurture and develop creativity to take it to another level . You don’t have to be a genius to be creative. Creativity is just a spark – one has to work on it. And even if the spark does not exist you can still work on it. Andreasen has given a summary of what it takes to be creative:

• First of all it has to be original
• Secondly it has to have a value; and
• It should lead to a creative product

There is creativity in each one of us, even if we do not think so. You need not be an artist to be creative. One can be creative in every walk of life or profession to make it meaningful and fun. A common sense approach is : creativity is a skill that anybody can be good at if  one wants to..If one is lucky and be born with more creative skills than others you can achieve more easily than the one who is less blessed with skills. However with proper training both can achieve the same goal but with a difference in the time factor.

So for those who feel they do not have the spark, lets work on it to learn the skill. We have to put on our reality glasses and learn how to educate ourselves into becoming creative. Everyone is looking for creative people. However, till now there is no structured course as such to become creative. Education ,proper environment, upbringing and interest in creativity will go a long way in achieving one’s goal.
