THE STORY
From Paris to Jakarta
Founded in Paris in 1841, ESMOD is one of the world’s leading fashion schools, dedicated to Fashion Design and, since 1989, to Fashion Business. Today, ESMOD’s international network spans 18 schools across 12 countries, educating future professionals for the fashion, luxury, cultural, and creative industries.
At ESMOD, education goes beyond technical training. Through a learning approach that combines creativity, craftsmanship, innovation, and critical thinking, students develop the expertise, strategic vision, and professional mindset needed to shape the future of fashion.
A Legacy of Fashion Education
For more than 180 years, ESMOD has continuously evolved alongside the fashion industry while remaining true to its educational philosophy. From its foundation in Paris to its international expansion, every milestone reflects a commitment to nurturing creative talent and preparing future generations of fashion professionals.
Today, ESMOD continues to connect cultures, creativity, and innovation through an international network that shares the same educational values while embracing the identity of each local campus.
Bringing ESMOD to Indonesia
In 1996, Ibu Hartini Hartarto introduced ESMOD to Indonesia with a vision to provide internationally recognized fashion education for aspiring designers and creative professionals. Her initiative established ESMOD Jakarta as the country’s first institution to combine French fashion education with Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
As part of the global ESMOD network, ESMOD Jakarta offers comprehensive programs that integrate creativity, technical excellence, and business knowledge. Students are guided throughout the entire creative process—from concept development and design exploration to runway presentation—supported by experienced lecturers and strong industry connections.
Continuing the Legacy
Today, ESMOD Jakarta is led by Ibu Maya Dewi Hartarto, continuing the vision of delivering internationally recognized fashion education while responding to the evolving needs of the creative industry.
Under her leadership, ESMOD Jakarta continues to strengthen collaborations with industry partners, expand opportunities for students through professional projects and fashion events, and nurture the next generation of designers, entrepreneurs, and creative leaders. By combining French educational heritage with Indonesia’s creative identity, ESMOD Jakarta remains committed to shaping the future of fashion education in Indonesia.
